Top Ten Books Outside My Comfort Zone I Am Glad I Read

Its Top Ten Tuesday time hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!

Top Ten Tuesday Freebie! Pick your own topic! I chose ten books I read that were totally out of my comfort zone but that I really really enjoyed. Here we go:

1. Moneyball by Michael Lewis: I love baseball but I don't pretend to know the first thing about managing a team.

2. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides: This was a Pulitzer Prize winner about a hermaphrodite and the struggles of transitioning from girl to boy. Excellent read!

3. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro: This is basically a story of love and friendship but with a unique twist.

4. Catch-22 by Joseph Heller: This is a war-based novel (not my cup of tea) but was really good.

5. Tuesday with Morrie by Mitch Albom: This is a non-fiction about a man who visits a friend who is dying. I tend to avoid the sad ones.

6. A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan:  Another Pulitzer Prize winner I would have never read.

7. I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga: I tend to avoid YA books, but really liked this one.

8. The Fault in our Stars by John Green: Another love story I typically avoid.

9. I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella: Definitely not my style, yet, I tend to like her books.

10. Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick: I really enjoyed this one.

  1. I recently bought a used copy of Middlesex when I realized I keep hearing about it all the time but have never read it. It hasn't made it to the top of my TBR list yet, but it'll get there someday! Glad to hear that you enjoyed it so much--that's encouraging!

  2. You chose some really interesting books. Picking up books that are outside my comfort zone is a thing I've been trying to do more often lately. I really want to read Catch-22, Never Let Me Go and Middlesex, the latter has been sitting on my shelves for ages.

  3. One of my reading goals this year was to expand my literary horizons and read some things I normally wouldn't choose. So far I'm doing ok, but I could definitely branch out more! Your choices are interesting -- I keep hearing about "Middlesex" but it seems a bit intimidating! I love Sophie Kinsella for some light, fluffy reading. "Twenties Girl" is my favorite of hers.

    1. That's what I like about Kinsella book too! I love reading her after heavy books with deep topics. She cleanses my palate!

  4. Great list! It's always an interesting experience to read something outside of your comfort zone, you learn something new and it's just different altogether :)

  5. This is such a great list. I'd only read a couple of the books you mentioned here though I had heard of the rest. Your post made me check them out and I've ended up adding a few of them to my TBR list. So thanks.

  6. I see a few on this list I LOVED (TFIOS, The Silver Linings Playbook) and several I'm excited to read (Never Let Me Go, A Visit from the Goon Squad, I Hunt Killers). Great list idea! :)
