It's time for the Broke and the Bookish's Top Ten Tuesday.
This week's theme: Top Ten Things On My Bookish Bucket List (could be blogging related, book related etc. -- meeting authors, reading x many books per year, finishing a daunting book, etc.)
I decided to start out with my blog challenges:
1. Reading 125 books this year: Last year I read 116 books, so this isn't much more, but I am struggling to keep up. I guess I better buckle down.
2. The Pulitzer Prize list: I am reading through the fiction list of Pulitzer Prize winners. I am hoping to get through this in two years.
3. The Classics Club: I joined the Classic Club and have a list of 50 books I am trying to get through in the next five years.
4. Reading every John Grisham book: I am not a huge fan of the super popular mystery writers that pump out novels faster than you can blink, but I read one of his books in college on a whim. I LOVED it. He is a phenomenal writer.
5. Meeting Jim Dale: Jim Dale is the best audiobook reader. I want to go to a book reading of his.
6. Reading Atlas Shrugged: 1168 pages of whopping intimidation. I hear great things, but man it is so intimidating. Its HUGE!
7. Reading War and Peace: Speaking of HUGE....1424 pages is a lot of pages.
8. A Brief History of Time: Ok, so I hear WONDERFUL thing about this book....but is is weird that I am worried I won't understand it? I mean, it is written by a genius.
9. The Shining: I had a bad experience with Stephen King (the whole 11-year old orgy thing), but I want a good scare and I hear this book will do the trick. Once I can look past the past, I'll read it.
10. Gone with the Wind: One more large book for the list, topping out at 1037 pages.
I've been reading Atlas Shrugged for over ten years.... one of these days I'll finish it!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love Jim Dale as a narrator. I'm picky about audiobooks but his are some that I don't want to stop listening to.
Maybe I should just start one of the large books and just slowly be working on it. And yes, I have a hard time stopping jim Dale books too.
DeleteI'm joining The Classics Club. I have been systematically reading and/or listening to classics for the past 7-8 years (and logging them on Goodreads). I like the idea of this club because it challenges me to get back to reviewing what I read. Thanks for linking to it...what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteIts definitely a great way to keep me reading classics. I'm glad you are joining!
DeleteReading War & Peace is on my list too. I don't shy away from big books but this one really is the ultimate...
ReplyDeleteMy husband has read it but it took him YEARS. That's just crazy to me.
DeleteI joined the classics club recently myself which was a good challenge for myself. I had already read a large amount if the classics so it is forcing me to read not as famous ones or ones I wasn't as interested in reading (Wuthering Heights).
ReplyDeleteWuthering Heights is one my classics list too. I probably wouldn't read it otherwise
Deleteare you talking about Stephen King's It with the orgy thing??
ReplyDeleteThe Shining was really good though. I really enjoyed the movie starring Jack Nicholson so I wanted to read the book. WOW! I was gifted with the book Doctor Sleep and I had no idea that It's a sequel to The Shining!! I'm looking forward to reading it....some day!!
Great list girl! Check out my TT @ Book Hangovers Blabs Books
Well, thats a tough list! :) Gone with the wind sounds wooow! And War and Peace too! :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea to read the Pulitzer list! My bucket list has to read more award winning books on it, but I like how specific yours is. I love how this is a Top Ten Tuesday.
