It's time for Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and The Bookish!
This week's theme: Top Ten Popular Authors I've Never Read
I literally could have named about 50 of these. Please don't judge me! I am slowly knocking these off. Until last year, Rainbow Rowell, JK Rowling, Melissa Meyer, Sue Grafton, James Patterson, John Green, Truman Capote, and many many more would have made this list. I'm getting there.
The main reason a lot of these are on my list is I have very strange taste in books.
1. Stieg Larsson: My main reason for not reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo books is that I hear that there is a pretty graphic rape scene or two. I don't know for sure though. But I can't handle rape scenes. They tend to haunt me for weeks if not months.
2. Suzanne Collins: I debated putting her on the list because I used to watch the children's shows she wrote for like Little Bear. But those weren't books and now she's known for her novels like The Hunger Games, which I have never read. The truth is, I don't like dystopian books (please don't throw things). Maybe someday...
3. Veronica Roth: She also falls under the "I don't really read dystopian" category. Again, maybe someday.
4. George R.R. Martin: When did Game of Thrones get so popular?
5. Stephanie Meyer: Nope...won't...can't....never will.
6. Cassandra Clare: I got to admit, I don't even know what The Mortal Instruments is about.
7. Laini Taylor: Ok, I don't know what Daughter of Smoke and Bone is about either.
8. Stephanie Perkins: I am usually not a big fan of romance but read them every once in awhile. Is Anna and the French Kiss a good one to read?
9. E. L. James: Nope....can't...won't....never will.
10. Jojo Moyes: She's been on my to-read list forever. I just need to read her now!
I know, I know....my list is crazy in the blogger world!
I understand re: Larsson. Had I known about it before I picked up the book I wouldn't have read it (it was, err, really graphic =S I had to stop reading and shoved the book at the bottom drawer of my desk, it rattled me). I only picked it up because a reader friend recommended it to me.
ReplyDeleteStephanie Perkins and Suzanne Collins made my list this week...if I had more room, Veronica Roth would've ended up on my list as well.
My TTT
Yeah, I think I'll keep avoiding Larsson for now. I am glad I am not the only one who hasn't read Suzanne Collins.
DeleteI should have put Larsson on my list. I've been really reluctant to read his series, although I've heard that if you can just get past that scene, you're in for a very good read.
ReplyDeleteI just picked up my first Jojo Moyes book this past weekend--Me Before You--and am really liking it!
I think that's the first Jojo Moyes book I am going to try. I hope you like it!
DeleteGreat list. If you do decide to to Read Cassandra Clare, try The Infernal Devices First (Clockwork Angel)! I would love to try GRR Martin but the size of the book puts me off a bit.
ReplyDeleteHere is my Top Ten Tuesday list if you want to check it out!

Gigantic books are very very intimidating for me too!
DeleteGreat list - I've only read Cassandra Clare, Stephanie Meyer and Suzanne Collins here. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Eventually I will tick them off my list.
DeleteI can't recommend Jojo Moyes highly enough. I adore her writing!
ReplyDeleteI really want to read her, just haven't gotten there yet.
DeleteCassandra Clare, Suzanne Collins, and George R.R. Martin all made my list. & I actually have only read Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series. All the other authors on your list I haven't read either. Nice to know I'm not the only one! :)
ReplyDeleteIt makes me feel a lot less weird!
DeleteOh good! I'm not the only one who hasn't read Stephanie Meyer. Cassandra Clare would be on my list but I've read one of her books. Just one though. Seems like everyone else has read both The Mortal Instruments and The Internal Devices series.....I read City of Bones and that's it!! I haven't read George R.R. Martin's books either. I want to so much but I'm a bit intimidated with how large and long the series is. One day!

My book club talks about Stephanie Meyer and Suzanne Collins EVERY time no matter what we are reading. I felt like the only one who hadn't read them.
DeleteI don't like dystopian either - I did try Hunger Games and understand why many love it but it wasn't for me.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I am not alone!
DeleteIn my opinion you're not missing much with Veronica Roth.
ReplyDeleteI might read her someday, but not any time soon.
DeleteYou have a lot of good books coming your way! :) I loved Roth and Collins and Martin is among my absolute faves!
ReplyDeleteYou are not missing a thing with Meyer, though! :)
Happy reading!
You validated your opinion with the Meyer comment. :) I trust you now.
DeleteI've read Collins, Roth and Martin and I enjoyed them a lot. I have Meyer, Clare, Taylor and James on my list as well :)
ReplyDeleteI am finding far more people with Meyer on their list than I thought.
